The Concord Rehab Blog

Kathy Schmitz, a dedicated All-Women's Crew member, will be chronicling the progress of the revitalization taking place on Bonifacio Street. The house was bequeathed to Habitat for Humanity East Bay by Clarice Garrison, a very generous Legacy Society donor. The home, sponsored by the Women's Crew, will be rehabilitated and sold to a low-income family.

Week 5

August 17, 2009

Go to gallery -> The good news is that this rehab project is moving along well ahead of schedule! The bad news is that we can't do too much more until the lead abatement is completed, which we hope will be scheduled soon. So this Saturday's workday (8/15) was canceled, and we know in the next day or so about NEXT week's workdays. (If sign ups for those dates are available online, but the dates are canceled later, those signed up will be notified. The Women's Crew will get an email about next week's status as soon as the team leaders know.)

Week 4

August 10, 2009

Go to gallery -> This weekend turned out to be a patching, painting, and plumbing marathon! On Friday Mike C put 11 volunteers (4 Women's Crew members and 7 guys, one of whom was a young first-timer, Sean G) to work repairing the two infamous ceiling holes, patching cracks in the kitchen walls, filling the big crack in the garage floor with cement grout, painting another coat on the walls and ceiling of the living room, hallway, and one bedroom, reconnecting the water heater, and repairing the shut-off valve at the outside front faucet. Sean pulled the short straw and filled in the long ditch in the back yard (where a concrete path had been removed) with dirt from a pile in the old shed area. Two volunteers bucked the trend, installing a ventilator fan in the garage and pulling a dead oleander and mystery bush out of the front yard.

Week 1

July 20, 2009

Go to gallery -> WOW! Today was the first work day at the Bonifacio St. rehab in Concord, and it was amazing to see what 20 eager and energetic folks can get done in one day!
