Event Information

Habitat for Humanity East Bays Executive Build is an exclusive half day build that brings together the Bay Areas top executive level officers. The event gives executives a great opportunity to give back to the community by swinging a hammer and helping to build homes for deserving low-income families. It also creates an environment for senior executives to network and learn about how their company can get involved with Habitat East Bay.

Bay area companies play a critical role in the success of Habitat East Bays housing program, and there are many ways to get involved. Come join our second annual Executive Build and learn more about how your company can help in our campaign to build the next 200 affordable, sustainable, ownership homes in just five years.

If you are a senior executive or you would like to get your senior executives involved in the Executive Build, contact Daryl Lee, Corporate Development Officer at 510-251-6304 x306 or via email at DLee@HabitatEB.org.

Press Release/Background

Building on the success of its first corporate Executive Build, Habitat for Humanity East Bay will welcome senior Bay Area executives to its development at 10800 Edes Avenue in Oakland, for a special work day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2009. Corporate leaders will use hammers, power tools, and cooperative effort to raise walls and support Habitat East Bays mission to provide successful homeownership opportunities for families with limited incomes.

"Its a chance to get out of our everyday business suits and have a hands-on experience with our corporate peers, forging new bonds, and experiencing the thrill of seeing the immediate results of ones labor. It is immensely gratifying to work together to build homes," said Janice Jensen, Habitat for Humanity East Bays Executive Director. "Last years team of executives had a lot of fun and helped make the dream of home ownership a reality for hard working families. Each Habitat family devotes hundreds of hours of sweat equity as the down payment on their homes. Our community leaders, volunteers and donors also make a difference by helping to make an enormous and positive change in the lives of these deserving families," Jensen explained.

Habitat for Humanity East Bays Executive Build is unique on the West Coast and in 2009 is hosted by Jack Keenan, Chief Operating Officer of Pacific Gas and Electric Company and John McDonald, Chief Technology Officer of Chevron Corporation. McDonald praised the worthwhile nature of the event by saying, "Few organizations can match Habitat for Humanity when it comes to giving families a chance at the American Dream. At Chevron, we believe in the power of Human Energy, which is why we are honored to play a part in revitalizing our communities, providing affordable homes to deserving families and promoting energy efficiency." Keenan added, "We are proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity to help build energy efficient, solar homes through our Solar Habitat Program. This partnership is so much more than just a corporate sponsorship. We are honored to volunteer our time and professional assistance to help create homes for hard working families that are both affordable and help reduce green house gas emissions."

This year, Habitat for Humanity East Bay will welcome CEOs and top executives from Pacific Gas and Electric Company , Chevron Corporation, Chevron Energy Solutions, Architectural Dimensions, Axway Corporation, Bank of America, Catellus Corporation, a Prologis Company, Certified Forest Products, Dow Chemical Company, KCBS, LCA Architects, Lennar Homes, Numi Organic Teas, Oakland Raiders, Packaged Business Solutions, The PMI Foundation, Shames Construction, Simpson Strong-Tie, Sponsor Strategies, Storm Products, Timpken Johnson Hwang, Wachovia, and Wells Fargo.

Executives will build on a site which, when complete, will help completely transform a former blighted East Oakland auto salvage yard into a thriving, healthy community for 54 families. Habitat East Bay has completed 26 homes on the Edes Avenue development and has 28 more to build. This effort is part of the organizations campaign to build 200 new sustainable, affordable homes in the next five years.
