Fruitvale Avenue

Project Description:

This development consists of four two-story town homes with a similar floor plan and small private yard. The units have a living room, kitchen, and laundry downstairs, and three bedrooms with 1.5 baths (1170 ft2) or four bedrooms with 2 baths (1360 ft2).

This is a unique development in that the homes incorporate environmentally sustainable design and our green building practices. We used sustainable and recycled building materials, and passive and active solar evergy features. We also recycled 90% of our unused building materials (the City of Oakland only requires 51% of construction waste to be recycled). The homes have modular framing, basing all layout on 24 inch centers. Using this system of framing, as opposed to the standard 16" on center framing we eliminated 30% of the framing material typically used on a project of this size. All framing lumber used was FSC certified (wood produced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner). This was Habitat for Humanity East Bay's first green development and we have continued to build green ever since.
