Build It Green, an organization based in Oakland, California, offers Green Building Guidelines for new home construction, home remodeling, and multifamily construction. These Guidelines are tailored to the climate and market conditions specific to California. They are endorsed by credible third-party sources, and are backed by sound building science. In addition, these Guidelines gave birth to the GreenPoint Rated third-party verification system. The system measures green building practices on a points system, valued by the
benefits to the homeowner and the environment. They also reflect construction practices that exceed California's building and energy code requirements (e.g. Title 24).
Habitat for Humanity East Bay has received GreenPoint Rated evaluations for all homes on every major development built since December, 2006. They have used this locally developed checklist as a tool to measure green building practices, products, and systems.
In addition, Build It Green also offers trainings for Certified Green Building Professionals certification and Advanced Green Building concepts and practices. Several members of the Habitat East Bay Project Management and Construction departments have attended trainings and achieved these certifications from Build It Green.
